Cardiac Rhythm Services

It’s all about proper ‘timing’ when it comes to treating complex arrhythmias at the Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute at Saint Francis. Our accomplished team of physicians treats patients with Atrial Fibrillation, the most common form of a rapid heart rhythm, and other intricate arrhythmias, with care that is comprehensive, state-of-the-art, and integrated within a system dedicated to excellence.

Electrophysiology Labs

The demand for cardiac care continues to evolve every day. To set the pace for these trends, Saint Francis has added two high-tech Electrophysiology Labs equipped with the Stereotaxis Magnetic Navigation System. The labs are located in a 4,300 square-foot facility on the Hospital’s main campus.

The EP labs are equipped with Stereotaxis capability, the first of its kind in the Greater Hartford area. These systems are integrated with cardiac CT and MRI images in order to create a detailed 3-dimensional map of the heart.

Stereotaxis is a navigational system which uses magnetic fields to move a catheter within the heart. This advanced technology allows physicians to safely treat more complex heart rhythm cases such as atrial fibrillation, seen in a growing number of patients.

Stereotaxis helps reduce radiation exposure for patients and hospital staff, and improves overall patient safety.

“The world of cardiac electrophysiology continues to change with advanced technology. Our EP labs enable us to be at the forefront of leading-edge procedures and to conduct clinical research on emerging treatment for patients with life-threatening arrhythmias,” comments Dr. Ellison Berns, Director, Electrophysiology, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

The Electrophysiology team at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center includes the four physicians of Arrhythmia Consultants of Connecticut, LLC. All members of our physician team specialize in the treatment of heart rhythm disorder, and are board-certified in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiology.
