Obstetrics and Gynecology

About the Department:

In an era of rapid and dramatic change in health care one quite naturally looks for evidence that an institution is taking advantage of change while at the same time preserving the aspects of stability that have brought it to prominence. Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center is such an institution.

The members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology are committed to patient centered care. Our “New Beginnings Family Birth Center and Women’s Wellness program is based in the Gibbons Women's Health Pavilion on the Saint Francis campus. Our caring staff, nurses and physicians quickly respond to patients’ needs. This center of excellence provides comprehensive services to women throughout their lifespan.

All inpatient obstetrics and gynecology, as well as antepartum testing, is housed in the Gibbons Women’s Health Pavilion. In addition our division of Maternal Fetal Medicine provides high risk obstetrical care to over 1/3 of the population of Hartford and it’s surrounding communities.

Similar to our high quality obstetrics services we have fully developed departmental divisions in the subspecialty areas of gynecologic oncology, urogynecology and OB/GYN Ultrasonography.

Sincerely,

Howard A. Shaw, M.D.
Chairman/Director
