Pre-Operative Evaluations

Patients considering bariatric surgery at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center must complete a preoperative education, testing and counseling program at the Center for Bariatric Surgery.

Patients will be thoroughly screened by a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including surgeons, nurses and dieticians, to identify potentially undiagnosed medical conditions and assess the risk for surgery. Tests may include documentation of medically supervised diet, chest X-ray, stress test, sleep study, abdominal ultrasound, upper gastrointestinal series, nutritional and psychological evaluation, colonoscopy (after age 50), Pap test, mammogram and pelvic ultrasound (in women only) electrocardiogram (EKG), upper endoscopy and blood tests.
