Do? TELL! Kids Against Child Abuseisa powerful film, hosted and narrated by prominent Deaf actors Anthony Natale, Robert DeMayo, and Rosa Lee Gallimore, which communicates the realityof child abuse in all its forms. Four brave children tell their true stories of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, intervention, and healing. The actors artfully bring these stories to life for a Deaf audience through American Sign Language. With English voice-overs and English and Spanish subtitles, Do? TELL! Kids Against Child Abuse is a multi-lingual production on a very important topic for both children and adults.

Produced by the Aetna Foundation Children’s Center, the Children’s Advocacy Center in Hartford, Connecticut, Do? TELL! Kids Against Child Abuse premiered to rave reviews by the Deaf and hearing communities in Connecticut in May, 2007.

This 40-minute film presents child abuse from the child’s point of view and thus offers an excellent education on abuse and healing for viewers of all ages, both Deaf and hearing. It is a resource for education and prevention, as well as a tool for those already suspected or confirmed as being victims of abuse. Do? TELL! Kids Against Child Abuse conveys the positive message that by telling about being abused, help and healing are available.

Endorsements:

“Abuse of all kinds can inflict permanent scars on the psyche of a child. Deaf children, who are at two-three times greater risk of abuse than hearing children, are especially vulnerable. The ASL-interpreted and captioned DVD, Do? TELL! is an important tool in preventing and stopping abuse. Narrated by four courageous, determined children, it addresses its subject in a straightforward, clear and appropriate manner.

School personnel should be aware of and have access to this important resource. The Do? TELL! DVD has application for counselors, classroom teachers and parent educators. I strongly encourage all schools to secure a copy and integrate this important subject into the ongoing school curriculum.”

As a Deaf Survivor, I found that this valuable film provides all deaf, hard of hearing, and ALDA children to become aware of their precious early experience. The film helped me feel healing by witnessing the victims’ experiences using Deaf actors in our first language, American Sign Language. It is about time and it is indeed overdue! This film is an excellent educational documentary with access to Deaf and hard of hearing children around the world!”
