• Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) of the main arteries in the brain

Stroke Diagnosis

A physician may order one or more of the following tests to determine if a patient has suffered a stroke. They include:

  • Imaging Tests - This test is used to present doctors with a clear picture of the brain. Using CT (computed tomography) scanning, MRI ( magnetic resonance imaging) scanning and MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography), doctors are able to pinpoint whether a stroke was caused by a blockage or by bleeding in the brain.
  • Electrical Tests - Doctors will use an EEG (electroencephalogram) to record electrical impulses and sensory processes of the brain.
  • Blood Flow Tests - (learn more) These are considered Doppler ultrasound tests that will highlight any changes in the blood flow to the brain.
